Like the true weirdo that I am, I decided it would be a GREAT idea to make a video of my 10 day trip to Peru approximately 24 hours prior to getting on the plane (not like I had ever done this before, #YOLO). I begged my Dad to borrow his new GoPro, frantically ran to find a stabilizer small enough to fit in my pack (apparently a necessity based on my limited research), and then just kind of attempted to capture this country we would fall in love with and the journey we took to get there. I may have filmed on the wrong video quality, but we’re always learning, aren’t we?.
“A Moment Apart” is an album by ODESZA, and more specifically the song I fell in love with the week we booked our trip in the beginning of 2018. I didn’t really understand the story behind this, but something about it seemed…extraordinary. Like it was #allthefeels at once. It’s one of those songs you can dream to, cry to, and dance to.
So while this was supposed to be my best attempt at a travel video, it’s become a reminder of my life this year – a lot of blood, sweat, & tears that has ended in abundant joy. Seasons of my life have soundtracks (at least I’m convinced). So ODESZA, if you’re ever reading this…this album got me over a few mountains this year and then some this year (both literally & figuratively). I am so thankful you made it.
On a lovely Monday afternoon in September, I happened to text my good friend Sterling (also known as Sage…story to come) just to check in and see how she was doing. About five texts in she jokingly invited with me to come stay with her in New Orleans for the weekend. And then she casually dropped the “I have a room at the Ritz” card to bribe me to come be her adventure buddy. Knowing I had a flexible schedule and a few airline miles…I was buying a flight for Friday a few hours later.

After I came back from my trip to Peru, I’ve been asked probably 100 times, “how was the Inca Trail?” I think most people probably expected me to say something along the lines of “it was the worst part of the trip” or “it was really hard”. After recovering from the hike, I am SUPER stoked to be able to answer that question along with “what did you pack?” and “what would you do differently?” since there seems to be a lack of REAL answers to these…at least from relatable sources. Now you can have the unadulterated truth about the Inca Trail not only from Lydiva herself, but from the other Peruvian Princesses. (PS – Keep scrollin’ for the best pics!)

Every time I go back to The City it seems to become more special to me. It’s become a second home of sorts over the years as my people move to “the greatest city in the world” and let me come be a part of it for a few days. Here’s some snaps from life in The City last month.

With a few hours to spare, I’m finally taking the time to share some of my favorite moments from the past year. 2017 has been a complete whirlwind between work, traveling, weddings, and everything else in between. They say a picture is worth 1000 words (#socheesy), so I’m not going to write any more of them. I recognize this post is totally personal (I gotta do me sometimes), but here is the recap of the past year from my camera roll.

You’ve probably never even heard of it, but a couple months ago I ventured to a little seaside town in California called Carmel-by-the-Sea. It was actually recommended by my mother (yep, the one who HATES traveling) as a peaceful place to get some R&R. So my friend/co-worker/fellow world traveler decided to take a short adventure to Carmel before making our way to Napa later on that week.

Are you looking for a new restaurant to try? Or maybe something new to do on this weekend? Or what you should check out while you’re visiting Dallas? Well, your girl Lyd has got you covered! One of my favorite hobbies is scouting out the hottest spots in my city and giving peeps the low down on my experience. Now that I’m back home, I feel like I’m catching up on all the new(ish) places that opened up in Dallas while I was gone in September.
